Illegal immigration a priority<\/p>\n
The INS developed a strategy called prevention through deterrence that became the basis of the border control offensive. Their aim was to deter illegal passage by employing measures such as harsh penalties, increasing fence on the border, use of surveillance equipment and law enforcement on the breaches. Law enforcement strategy has developed into adoption of preventive approach. Thus most illegal intruders avoid intruding U.S country before they are caught. Entering a country illegally is breaking laws and law breakers are viewed as criminal. When caught, they should be punished severely and penalties should be imposed on them. In addition border screening is done to stop those who are committing a border related act of violation before they enter whether by sea, air or road means (Peter, 2009).<\/p>\n
Enemy and border protecting<\/p>\n
In U.S there is a legal system that provides steps to enter a country. This is done to track what and who is entering the country protect the border and the country from the illegal immigrants and their contraband they may bring. Those who try to evade these steps while entering the country are said to enter illegally and are viewed as the enemies of the country (States, 2011). An enemy can also be said to be any one who knowingly harbor, induce or encourage an illegal alien to come to, live or penetrate in the United States, whether knowing or in reckless ignorance of the fact that such residing, coming to, or penetrating will be in violation of law. Another enemy is time and money. Without enough time and money to fund the protection the task at hand would be difficult to achieve (States, 2011).<\/p>\n
Border enforcement and public health and Safety concerns<\/p>\n
Public health and safety and enforcement go together thus; public health safety can be attained by thorough check at the border to prevent an individual bringing dangerous food that can bring about death or sickness in the country. A secure border health wise means safety and good health (Peter, 2009).<\/p>\n
