The Pursuit of \u201cSocial Justice\u201d is Getting People Killed by Jason L. Riley<\/p>\n
Riley\u2019s article asserts that chaos is likely to follow when far-left attitudes on punishment and crime are allowed to take hold. The author further notes that while it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of all the public policies being pushed in the name of social justice, the damage caused is building up. It also asserts that the damage from this affects more the people whose policies are promoted.<\/p>\n
An inquirer from Philadelphia reported on a Sunday front page back in July that the president of the City Council wanted to revisit the stop-and-risk provision. In a stop-and-frisk tactic, police officers are allowed to stop, question, and at times conduct a search on pedestrians suspected of criminal behavior (Riley, 1). For many decades now, police departments in various parts of the country have employed the stop-and-frisk tactic to reduce crime rates and get rid of illegal firearms from the street. However, social justice advocates and activists that ironically are in support of gun control have decried the tactic citing that specific ethnicities including Hispanics and black people, are stopped by police officers more than any other racial group. For most critics, the balance of stops and checks is evidence of racial bias as opposed to a reflection of higher crime rates among Hispanics and Black people compared to other ethnic and racial groups. Additionally, compared to their female counterparts, men are stopped more often by police officers pointing to evidence of sexism in big cities such as Philadelphia, Chicago, St. Louis, and Baltimore where violent crimes is concentrated amongst certain groups but also geographically.<\/p>\n
