This week, you will write a persuasive research paper. A persuasive paper is an essay used to convince a reader about a particular idea or focus, usually one that you believe in.<\/p>\n
Your persuasive essay could be based on anything about which you have an opinion. Whether you’re arguing against junk food at school or petitioning for a raise from your boss, the persuasive essay is a skill that everyone should know. To write a persuasive essay, you can follow this outline:<\/p>\n
Introductory Paragraph<\/p>\n
Grab the reader\u2019s attention by using a \u201chook.\u201d<\/p>\n
Give an overview of the argument.<\/p>\n
Close with a thesis statement that reveals the position to be argued.<\/p>\n
\u201cBody\u201d Paragraphs That Provide Support For Your Argument (while three \u201cpoints\u201d are listed here, you\u2019ll need more paragraphs than that in order to meet your page count)<\/p>\n
Side A \u2013 All the facts and reasoning that supports your paper\u2019s argument<\/p>\n
Side B \u2013 What is the counterargument, and why is it incorrect or why does it not discredit your argument<\/p>\n
Remember not to \u201cspeak\u201d in your paper with personal pronouns (like \u201cI\u201d or \u201cmy\u201d,) as you want your paper to speak to the reader, not you personally<\/p>\n
Each body paragraph should focus on one piece of evidence.<\/p>\n
Within each paragraph, provide sufficient supporting detail.<\/p>\n
Concluding Paragraph<\/p>\n
Restate and reinforce the thesis and supporting evidence.<\/p>\n
