what does it mean when a sports announcer says that an athlete is in the \u2018zone\u2019?<\/p>\n
Being in the zone means being in a mental state of total focus in the present moment. It is also referred to as being immersed as it indicates that the athlete doesn\u2019t worry about the outcomes or are not distracted when they are performing. The athlete trusts their skills and react without worry, doubt, or fear about the results. It is simply a point of total concentration.<\/p>\n
Do you think this term represents oversimplification of a complex interaction between mind and body? Getting into the \u2018Zone\u2019 is a complex process, and athletes have problems in achieving it when transiting from large, high-pressure competition to smaller events. The problem is that an athlete cannot force themselves into achieving it every time of competition as it is an ideal state and to which does not often happen for athletes. Various roadblocks prevent the athlete from getting into the \u2018zone.\u2019 Some of these roadblocks include fear of failure, perfectionism, high expectations, low-confidence, lack of focus, intimidation, and the worry about what others think of them. Getting into the \u2018zone\u2019 therefore is a complex process as the athlete has to attain both physical and mental balance and therefore according to me, the term \u2018zone\u2019 represents oversimplification of a complex interaction between mind and body.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
