What is a fact sheet?<\/p>\n
A fact sheet provides meaningful information about a topic in a format that is extremely brief and easy to read.\u00a0Fact sheets are used to provide an overview,\u00a0to provide recommendations and advice,\u00a0and sometimes to convince the reader to change their behavior.\u00a0The focus is on providing what is essential and presenting the information in a way that is visually appealing and accessible.<\/p>\n

Fact Sheet Format for this assignment:<\/p>\n
1. The fact sheet should be between\u00a02-3\u00a0pages double spaced typed pages,\u00a0not including the reference list.<\/p>\n
2.\u00a0Use\u00a012\u00a0point font.<\/p>\n
3.\u00a0Figures or table can be used.<\/p>\n
4.\u00a0The fact sheet should be based primarily on at least\u00a03\u00a0recently\u00a0(within the last\u00a05\u00a0years)\u00a0published review articles of your topic\u00a0(from a public health or medical journals).\u00a0You may augment this information with data from websites or other publications,\u00a0but published reviews will form the basis of your research.\u00a0The course textbook can be used to gain a basic understanding of your chosen disease or condition.<\/p>\n
5.\u00a0All references used to create our fact sheet should be cited in the text and referenced at the end.<\/p>\n

Steps in Preparing your Fact Sheet:<\/p>\n
1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Choose a topic-\u00a0The focus is a disease or condition that affects humans.\u00a0It may help to explore texts of infectious disease,\u00a0chronic disease,\u00a0or public health to see what catches your interest.<\/p>\n
2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Conduct a search of the literature<\/p>\n
3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Limit the scope of the topic-\u00a0After researching your topic to get a sense of its scope,\u00a0you may decide to study the disease in general\u00a0(for example,\u00a0\u201cheart disease\u201d\u00a0)\u00a0or limit your topic by focusing on a specific group according to race,\u00a0age,\u00a0gender, or geographic location.\u00a0(For example,\u00a0\u201cheart disease in women\u201d,\u00a0or\u00a0\u201cheart disease in African-Americans\u201d,\u00a0or\u00a0\u201cheart disease in Orlando,\u00a0FL.\u201d)\u00a0If there are too many review articles on your topic you need to limit the scope of your fact sheet further\u00a0or select another disease\/condition.\u00a0If there are not enough reviews,\u00a0you may want to check in with the Professor about your topic.<\/p>\n
