Preceptor, Goals and Expectations<\/p>\n
I am pursuing my Leadership Capstone practicum at the G.W University Hospital with the Chief of Nursing Officer (Labriola Rose A) as my preceptor. My capstone project will be to undertake a systematic review of the Nurse Residency Program based on turnover and long term outcome. I will undertake research regarding the nurse residency program with the view of determining its effectiveness prior to implementation. I will meet with the Education Director and Chief of Nursing Officer (C.N.O) on a weekly basis to review the progress of the research. My next goal is to develop learning opportunities for clinical experience in practice management and leadership with preceptor. In addition, I look forward to working effectively in the complex system and developing leadership abilities that are appropriate for the role. My final goal is to demonstrate synthesis and effective application of the Benner\u2019s model and particularly master the teaching-coaching functions, clinical practice and research roles, and effective management of changing work environments. <\/p>\n
To attain the above-mentioned goals, I expect to find a collaborative team comprising of my Education Director and preceptor. This will provide the guidance and assistance I require to undertake research effectively and disseminate findings accordingly. I also look forward to the institution to provide learning opportunities and encourage me to take initiative and transform from a state of dependence to independence by the end of the program. In addition to providing basic resources, I presume my preceptor will allow me exercise responsibility and accountability for my leadership decisions. In instances where I encounter new and challenging situations, I will count on the preceptor to provide necessary assistance and supervision. Finally, I look forward to generating knowledge about the characteristics of an ideal nurse residency program in order to foster credible decision making in future. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
