As a counselor working with diverse clients, it is crucial to know your clientele. It is essential to spend time talking and interacting with your clients so that you may learn where they come from. As a counselor, understanding the cultural needs of your clients is vital because by being more conscious and respectful of the cultural variations among your clients, you will be better able to demonstrate respect for individual customers, give support in ways that are culturally comfortable to clients and establish good connections with clients. A counselor working with diverse clients should practice a personal guiding theory that associates personal beliefs and values with theoretical approaches. A personal guiding theory is the counselor’s guiding theory on how individuals change and evolve through time (Barth etal., 2019). Therefore, the social cognitive theory would be appropriate when working with diverse clients since it guides behavior change interventions. Social cognitive theory helps examine how individuals from different communities interact with each other and their surroundings (Schunk etal., 2020). While still applying social cognitive theory, it is essential to ensure that the counselor is culturally competent to encourage accepting and acknowledging differences in culture and behavior. <\/p>\n
Some of the necessary techniques in working with diverse clients include; reinforcing the necessity of recognizing client diversity to ensure that no client is discriminated against and creating a welcoming and friendly environment by employing a diverse workforce. Besides, understanding, respecting clients’ diversity, and treating clients according to their preferences are truly important when dealing while diverse clients.<\/p>\n
