The Troglodytes nature and form of government

In the 18th century, one of the most influential thinkers of politics was known as Montesquieu. In order for people to know about the how good governments ought to be, he came up with the ‘Persian Letters’. It was also meant to create humor about the French rule. Montesquieu is instrumental in ensuring that people are aware of how bad governments can be gotten rid of. The Troglodytes are people looking for a government, which is workable. There are four stages, which they underwent before they could have their own government. First, they have to find a type of government, which was suitable for them.

These people did not have any sense of justice or equity, thus were extremely ferocious. The troglodytes had a king, but they eliminated him, because he was extremely harsh to them. Thus decided they needed to come up with a government, and magistrates were elected. The latter did not please the troglodytes and were murdered. This means that they did not find the magistrates worthy to be their leaders. In turn, they rebelled against them as they were not used to being governed. They seemed to do things in a manner, which only pleased them.

Secondly, they decided that anarchy was the best way to live, as no government seemed to work for their benefit. This means that they decided to live like savages. It was agreed upon that no person would be obeyed and everyone would do as they pleased. Also, everyone was free to do anything they wanted and there would not be any repercussions for their deeds. This means that respect between people did not exist, as there was no order thus no law to govern them. Everyone seemed pleased with this method as the resolution made was unanimous. They believed that it was not worthy, in any way to work, as other people benefited from it. The troglodytes were extremely selfish and were only interested in their own personal interests. Their actions were displayed in various sectors of the economy such as agriculture. For example, during cultivation, people planted only what could satisfy themselves. Some people who lived in dry lands did not have any harvest, thus died while their neighbors did nothing concerning this issue.

For example, the wife of a chief, who was extremely beautiful was taken away by a neighbor .This is because of the lawlessness, which existed and this created enmity between the neighbor and the chief. In order to solve this matter, they went to other troglodytes to obtain advice. Instead, the two parties were sent away as they seemed to bother the person they wanted advice from. The latter told them that they had their own issues such as cultivating land, thus no interest with other matters.

In another incident, a man’s land, which was fertile, was stolen from him by his two neighbors. They cultivated the land for some months, until one got tired of sharing the land. Thus, one of the men was killed by his partners and became the sole owner of the land. After some time, other people plotted and took a way the land .This shows that no one was safe as any time they would be murdered and their property taken away. Many of the troglodytes lost their lives due to their wicked ways.

There were only two men in this society who had good virtues. They were just as well as humane, and were not corrupted by any means. They made sure that they worked for their benefit of both their families .They made sure their children and wives were well taken care off. They sort to ensure that virtues were instilled in their children by educating them. Interests of the community were better than that of individuals. Everyone in their family ensured that they were just and this was practiced all the time. After some time, this community grew through many marriages. In turn, virtue was spread among the different people and this is how the troglodytes started changing their ways. As a result of practicing religion, this people were able to find a sense of living in a just way. Every aspect of life was influenced by religion and this brought about unity among the people.

The temples were regarded as places for prayers whereby, people wanted to ensure that every body’s needs were well taken care of. It was a common belief that all the troglodyte people were meant to become happy. Most times in the evening after people were through with their work, they would eat together. This means that the society was revived and everyone was happy. Nature was responsible for ensuring that all their needs were well taken care off. They would often give each other gifts and this made them even more united than before. It is through this system of living that the Troglodytes came up with a monarchy. A royal family existed and was in charge of the people’s welfare. This was the end of the previous heinous lives of the troglodytes, when they had no government.
