Introduction
Development is a fundamental part of urban planning which also involves a lot of designing processes. For dwellers of a particular urban town to be comfortable and prone from potential illnesses caused by unhygienic conditions, certain items ought to be structured and put in place. These include road networks, drainage and sewerage, the local currency, recreational facilities and the environment which include water and waste (Christwaterguy, 2010).
The following paper will evaluate the film Children of Heaven in terms of planning of the transport, and drainage of water and waste. These being among the major issues that should be observed during urban planning are very essential since with a proper plan a lot of accidents and diseases can be put at bay. With good transport in addition, people can move about freely and without congestion and help save time.
Urban Planning in Relation To Transport and Drainage
The film is based in Iran where most of the population is that of members who profess the Islamic faith. Culturally as is depicted from the film, they are religious people who live communally shown by the observation of the mourning ceremony and when Ali’s mother shares her soup. The film is set on a poor background of people who live on wages and therefore debts hence they do not possess the ability to acquire some of the basic commodities like shoes. On the other hand, there are the wealthy ones who live on large spaces of land and live individually as they only speak to visitors through machines and do not want to be bothered (Majidi, 1997).
Due to lack of enough spacing between the residential houses there is only the presence of narrow corridors where people can walk through. They are however too congested for comfortable navigation. This inhibits those living in such areas from cycling and even driving. The corridors between the buildings due to their cemented nature allow for the collection of water paddles during the rainy season and at times sewerage which makes them slippery. The roads are also not well enough spaced to allow for bicycles and vehicles hence people have to walk or run to various places such as school and most.
Contrary to the planning in these areas, as depicted by Majidi, (1997) in the uptown there is a much spaced kind of planning where the road networks are modern with bypasses to decongest traffic. This allows for more vehicles to use the roads. Moreover, the residential houses are well spaced to allow for roads that can be utilized by both the motorists and the cyclists. However, a serious problem in the road design is the lack of break points such as bumps especially in the uptown residential areas which can easily lead to accidents.
Secondly, there is poor drainage system associated with poor transport as the one witnessed in the episode of Zahra and the snickers. There are open gutters containing running dirty water where one can fall into and get hurt. Moreover, are also filled with garbage which can be a great health risk.
In conclusion, since transport and the drainage of water and waste are issues that go hand in hand, they should be given sufficient consideration during urban planning, design and development in order to make the lives of the residents smooth. This is with respect to availability of a variety of transport modes and a risk free environment towards diseases as that observed in the uptown environment.
