In 1977 American counselling association (ACA) were very close to other associations and organisations and this was meant for educating and protecting the public. This was the most significant event in the timeline of counselling development. According to ACA milestones (2021), during that period of around 1977 the ACA with the other associations came adopted and drafted the book by the name ‘the principles for the provision of health and substance abuse prevention treatment services’. This provides an opportunity for individuals who need assistance to seek help whenever possible and especially in reference to myself who is doing counselling. This means that if people seek for help I will be able to help them. The IAAOC otherwise known as the international association of addictions and offender counsellors specializes in counselling of individuals with problems of addictions. It was formed in 1972 to offer counselling to public offenders. The main goal was to help the public offenders to fully recover and change by taking them through rehabilitation. Doing this work is very important to me as it reminds me of a friend who got so much addicted to alcohol to the point he got an accident and died on the spot. Therefore it is honouring him by enabling more people get away from the path he walked along.
