Report on the Blessed Home Healthcare Company Employee Handbook
Introduction
The chosen employee handbook is that of the Blessed Home Health Care Agency. This report defines the rules and guidelines that regulate the service provision at the organization. It also creates a framework through which the supervisors and the managers can easily implement the principles of labor, finances, and service provision by engaging the employees. Reading the handbook by the employees creates a framework through which the employee understands and complies with the Blessed Home Healthcare Company policies. Employees understand the responsibilities granted by the company and the programs developed by the healthcare organization. The handbook also enables the Company to provide the work environment for the personal and professional growth of an individual employee. This paper provides feedback on the various components of the employee handbook of the Blessed Home Health Care Company.
Firstly, regarding the nature of employment, the handbook outlines that an employee at the Blessed Home Healthcare Company voluntarily enters the employment hence free to hand resignation at any moment according to the will without cause or notice. Also, employment termination can occur at any moment without notice provided the federal and state laws on employment are not violated by the management. No individual has the authority to make a verbal statement that terminates the employment of an employee at any moment without notice. Notably, the relationship of the employment can get changed only through the written agreement signed by the president and the employee of the Blessed Home Healthcare Company. Normally, the provision of the employment policies can never get amended or added without the written approval of the chief executive officer (Peckham et al., 2019). Therefore, the policy on the nature of employment provides clear guidelines on the employment amendment that favors the individual employee.
Secondly, the codes of ethics as defined in the handbook define the ethical standards and requirements which enable the staff members to provide services professionally. Also, the codes of ethics create a respectful environment through the use of legal means that mitigate the detriments like disrespect, unprofessional, and illegal behaviors. Some of the illegal behaviors which the handbook tries to eradicate include. Unauthorized consumption of individual foodstuffs and drinks, bringing the relative, child, or a pet of an individual to a place of residence, and alcohol consumption in the process of service delivery to an individual client are prohibited by the organization. Also, the book eradicates illegal consumption of drugs, medicine, and other chemical substances, discussion of re4ligious matters within the company, personal issues discussed within the healthcare setting, obtaining properties and money through dubious means, and engaging in behaviors that may cause distraction in service provision and watching videos and playing games on computers and phones in the working environment. Other distractors which the company tries to eradicate include, smoking without consent, verbal, physical, and emotional abuses, engaging the behaviors that may cause a conflict of interest, and no-care-related socialization. The handbook’s codes of ethic section is clear to all employees and does not allow any unnecessary exceptions.
Furthermore, healthy employee relations have been encouraged by the Blessed Home Healthcare Company through airing issues directly and openly to the supervisors. Also, the employees directly communicate with the departmental managers and supervisors hence creating positive and clear feedback. As such, my perception on employee relation depicts the steps which the supervisors and managers have responded positively and effectively to the needs of the employees to promote healthy labor growth.
Also, the equality in the employment opportunities is based on the merit needs of the company and the qualification levels. As such, the Blessed Home Healthcare Company eradicates any form of discrimination in the provision of opportunities based on race, gender, sex, religion, color, ancestry, origin, family, medical condition, and sexual orientation. Therefore, after the recruitment of qualified individuals, the company provides accommodation for individuals with disabilities. Equal employment opportunities have created an enabling environment where every individual in the community regardless of the origin or disability get appreciated (Bonaccio, 2021). Therefore, the company should continue to adopt the equality in the provision of the employment opportunity for sustainable social and economic growth.
Additionally, the Blessed Home Healthcare Company has achieved positive personal relationships at the workplace by eliminating dating relationships which may cause challenges and conflict during the service provision. This is clearly indicated under the section on Personal Relationship in the Workplace. Also, the dating relationship may cause conflict outside the working environment which may get carried by the employees at the place of work. As such, the company has provided guidelines through which the employees related by blood and marriage cannot work in the same department through supervision or direct involvement in the same service provision sections. Therefore, the Blessed Home Healthcare Company move to impose stringent action against the employees characterized by the conflict of interest remains the effective move (Pagura, 2021). Therefore, high morality and integrity will develop upon the imposition of the punitive measures.
The employee handbook also has a section dealing with the conflicts of interest which has helped eradicate the conflict of interest within the workplace. Consequently, this has enabled the company to provide a guideline through which the employees have the obligation of conducting the business within the guidelines to prevent the said conflict. The guidelines provide direction to employees to enable them to seek clarifications on the standard of operation acceptance subjects. Majorly, the conflict of interest occurs when an employee can influence the decision that affects the personal gains during the business dealings (Butt et al., 2019). As such, the Blessed Home Company has created no presumption of guilt that provides a healthy relationship between the employees and the outside organizations, which is commendable.
The non-disclosure section of the handbook has also allowed the company to ensure that the patient’s information is protected in the healthcare records. The protection of confidential information about the patient gets achieved through the employees signing the non-disclosure agreement as the employment conditions. The disciplinary action is therefore taken against the employee that discloses the patient’s information which includes employment termination and legal action even without benefiting from the information disclosure.
Furthermore, the Blessed Home Healthcare Company has categorized employment to enable the employees to understand the employment status and the eligible benefits. However, the application of the termination rights creates an environment where the relationship between the company and the employees can get retained at will. Also, the regular full-time or part-time employees are scheduled to work for a duration not exceeding 40hors in a week. The company should continue to evaluate the employees’ performance and determine the appropriateness of the position as Butt et al. (2019) stipulates. The continuous evaluation will give the company systematic approaches in creation of job groups.
Furthermore, the company has provided guidelines through which an individual can apply for employment positions through accurate models of data presentations. An individual should comply with the company’s obligation without omitting professional documents, provision of false information, and data exaggeration that may lead to disqualifications. The FBI and BCI background checks are also required by the company at the cost of the employees to create a crime-free work zone. The investigation body enables the organization to determine the crime status of an individual who requires employment therefore beneficial in recruiting disciplined and moral employees.
Also, the personal data changes section reveals that the employees have the responsibility of notifying the Blessed Home Company of the data changes like mailings, telephone numbers, and dependent’s names. Other changes include educational level changes, status reports, and emergency events. The main office has the responsibility of creating an environment for the updating of the changes. It is good that the company allows its employees to report any changes since this is crucial for the Company. For instance, information updates on changes in educational level may be useful when promoting employees.
The Blessed Home Healthcare Company has also encouraged the job description agenda to provide quality orientation to the new employees. The job descriptions also identify the requirement for all the positions, establish the criteria for hiring, and create a framework for establishing the accommodation for disabled. Notably, the job description gets prepared by the Chief Executive Officer upon the creation of the new job positions. The review of the existing job positions is also carried out for updating and periodic writing in case of changes in responsibilities (López et al., 2021). Therefore, the chief executive officer of the company should ensure that all the employees have in-depth knowledge of their job categories hence creating to need to work hard for promotions.
The handbook also outlines the vacation time and holidays for the employees. The Blessed Home Healthcare Company has created the vacation time in writing which is granted a month in advance. The conditions for taking the vacation require the approval of the supervisors. The vacation time is unpaid and has no compensation therefore; the employees take a vacation for rest, relaxation, and personal pursuit. On the other hand, holidays are granted on an equal basis to the employees. Examples of the holidays are the New Year, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. This is an important section of the handbook as it eliminates any conflicts between employees who may demand paid leaves and the Company.
The employee handbook also provides for the sick leave and bereavement leave. The sick leave is granted to an employee by the company upon the occurrence of the sickness and approved by the supervisor. The bereavement leave gets taken by an employee after the death of an immediate family member. The three days of bereavement are granted by the supervisor for the loss of the child, family members, siblings, and spouse. In addition, the company should lengthen the sick and bereavement leave to allow the affected employees psychologically heal for the quality service provision once they are back to the station.
The company outlines the criteria for employment terminations through resignations, discharge, layoffs, and retirement. Also, the termination gets depicted by the guideline policies signed by the CEO. As such, the company has the right to terminate the employee at will with or without the time and cause according to my perception (Werneburg et al., 2018). However, the termination should respect the needs and employment terms signed by the employee.
Regarding the issue of safety, the Company also provides a safe working environment for all the employees through workplace safety programs. The human resource department is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the safety programs. As such, information is provided to the employees about the safety programs. My view on safety environment entails the need of the company to create a system of green energy to reduce the environmental pollution through recycling of wastes.
Conclusion
The Blessed Home Healthcare Company creates a mechanism through which the employees, supervisors, and managers can provide quality service delivery to the organization. The provision of the service delivery requires the employment guidelines which are described in the Employees Handbook. The employment handbook explains the nature of employment, the employee’s safety, vacations and holidays, and employment termination. It also examines categories of employment, employment evaluations, and equal employment opportunities. According to my view, the Blessed Home Handbook has provided a comprehensive employee working conditions that has enabled sustainable management and labor provision. As such, I would like to recommend the company to adjust its policies by providing ample duration for bereaved to enable them heal psychologically from the traumatizing and stressful experience. It should also review the employment terms to encourage recruitment considerations to the vulnerable in the society like the disables.
