Undoubtedly, Odysseus goes through many obstacles in his journey toward the Underworld. Poseidon, the God of the sea, is one of them. Other gods were merciful towards Odysseus, but Poseidon was angered by him. This is because he had played a role in blinding Polyphemos, the son of Poseidon and Kyklopes. Odysseus was lucky to have survived the Trojan War, as numerous deaths were recorded. Odysseus’s men also survived before being stranded on Kalypso Island. The goddesses guided Odysseus throughout his journey to the underworld where he came across people that he knew. There he received the advice that he was in desperate need of from Tiresias and Agamemnon, who told him to travel incognito in order to avoid challenges that were awaiting him.

Nothing is usual when it comes to the Greek afterlife. Without a doubt, Greek mythology is rather complex and most what takes place there is considered unacceptable in the current world. It is true that controversial issues like taking a life, incest, and adultery are not condemned but rather accepted. In the afterworld, all these acts are deemed beautiful. The kinds of experiences of people in the afterlife are informed by whether the individual is mortal or immortal. The whole concept of Greek afterlife is that individuals are rewarded according to what they dwelled upon in their previous lifetime. I agree that the concepts of afterlife and religion are closely related.
