Obama declares independence from the Congress

President Obama has struggled to put the U.S economy on track. Unfortunately, he has complained that one of the hindrances to the achievement of the economic goals is lack of unity. The congress is divided on political grounds making it difficult to get the approval of bills that makes one party famous. Over the last five years, the Obama government has suffered a major blow of not a getting approval of the economic bills from the congress (Bacon, 2014). This has been due to fractious political combats that have been mistakenly extended to sensitive issues such as the economy. President Obama announced the new resolution of declaring his independence from congress. In his speech at the State of the Union Address, Obama declared his stand to act alone in matters relating to solving economic disparity.

Referring to it as ‘the year of action’, Obama vowed to take the initiative of bypassing the divided Congress in order to manage to take the U.S economy to a greater level. He declared to work within executive orders as the law approves. In fact, the move is likely to worsen the relationship between the Democrats and the Republicans (Bacon, 2014). The decision comes us a result of frustration caused by the slow pace at which legislative action takes place.

Obama sees the initiative as a resolution to creating togetherness in America in order to achieve the set economic goals. Lack of agreement between the Democrats and the Republicans has impacted negatively towards realization of economic goals. This has been brought about by the fight for supremacy between the concerned parties. Furthermore, the Republicans are favored by their number in the congress while the Democrats are favored by consensus. The Republicans enjoy the fact that they have the number to control the House. Seemingly, subjecting sensitive decisions to the approval of the senate is not wise (Grant, 2014). This is because the decisions might be affected by political indifferences. The need to fight for political supremacy might surpass the need to act in the interest of the public. Consequently, a nation might suffer not because she lacks proper economic strategies but because she extends political ideologies to matters of critical concern.

The president claimed that the opposition blocked most of his initiatives last year. He promised not to allow them to do so in 2014. Deciding to take steps with or without legislation is aimed at prioritizing the interest of common citizens to political wills. $10.10 per hour is the minimum rate that Obama promised to increase for people working under federal contracts. He affirmed to implement the idea even though the congress seemed not ready to pass a minimum wage rate for Americans (Bacon, 2014). In response to the Congress’ refusal to expand unemployment insurance, the president promised to restructure training programs for the unemployed to enable the jobless hired in workplaces. He would also standardize early childhood education program even if the opposition refuses to support a universal pre-kindergarten system.

The move that the president took isrecognition that compromise with the opposition is not the best way of saving the prevailing economic situation. He did this to impersonalize the issues in order to avoid direct confrontation with the Republicans. Obama has a few years to go; it is high time he started working for the benefit of the nation but not to remain high in the political perspective. Minimizing competitive scenario’s in the name of approving or rejecting a given bill would help to reduce the political temperatures in the country (Bacon, 2014). As a result, the minds of key decision makers would be shifted towards achieving a common national goal in a communal manner.

Obama promised not to give the Republicans a chance to derail his project aimed at creating a sustainable economy. The challenge comes when the projects require the approval of the congress. Unfortunately, the opposition has the numbers to reject or support a decision of the government. Nevertheless, the political struggle for fame takes over. It costs the Republicans to support government bills. In order to kill the fame enjoyed by the Democrats, the Republicans use the numbers irresponsibly to reject government projects. As a result, the opposition would see them in the frontline of fame while exposing shame on the side of the government (Bacon, 2014). The ill motive has no other objective than plotting a win in the next general election. However, the Republicans have to realize that elections come ones after a long time but the life of the people of America keep being. It is advisable to put national interest in the forefront before political interests that are full of plight for self-actualization. The Obama’s resolution is a good idea for overcoming the pressures exerted by the opposition even on matters which require communal approach.

Possibly, taking executive approach would change the perception of the opposition. It would open ways for negotiations as there would be no room for proving each other’s ability based on rejection or support of bills. In addition, taking the stand poses little risk that the decisions would limit the president’s ability to cooperate with the congress. In fact, the opposition was already opposing most of his projects.Obama should go ahead and start making magic with the pen (Grant, 2014). The constitution has a broad definition of presidential powers. It does not give a proper distinction in authorizing or limiting presidential powers. The said executive powers to be delivered by Obama come from ‘implied constitutional and statutory authority’. For the orders to have effect of law and force, they must be first issued under valid claims of authority and published in the Federal Register.

Past Presidents have used executive orders to reinforce their decisions. Harry Truman issued the order 10340 which required that the then Secretary of Commerce stop a workers strike by seizing. He claimed that the strike would affect the government’s operation. Though used extravagantly, the president had the authority to give the executive orders. However, the court disowned the president’s action. Relating it to the Obama subject issue, he is working within the interest of people. For example, setting a minimum wage rate would protect contract employees from manipulation by employers. It is unreasonable for the Republicans to refuse to support the minimum wage bill. Therefore, it is necessary for the president to act within the law to give executive orders that are for national benefit. It is time to put politics aside and deliver to the public (Grant, 2014). The supremacy for being at the top of politics has little or no direct advantage as far as national economy is concerned. Obama should go head and give little attention to the congress.
