In accordance to Heidegger authentic or owned relation to death, a person’s life belongs to the individual who is the owner of the life and so is his or her demise. Therefore, when one dies, the death is related to the life’s owner, which by now has been terminated as death, is inevitable. Conversely, Heidegger perceives that inauthentic or unowned relation to death is whereby one cannot experience demise through other people’s lives. An individual’s death is separate from the other people despite cases of dying together. One experiences death alone, but cannot live to tell of the experience.
Death, as aforementioned, it is inevitable, and one experiences it alone without any form of sharing. As such, this makes death a termination of life, which everyone is destined to meet, despite the mind evading this thought. Dasein supports ownership and goes against the norm, where everyone is afraid of death and evade the fact that all must die. Dasein accepts that death will come and terminate the current life, but it does not lead to fear of demise. As such, Dasein is free of death by abandoning fear towards demise through acceptance.
Realizing that death is inevitable, Dasein has an anticipatory nature since an individual expects to die in life. It is living with the certainty that death can occur any time that Dasein eventually believes in existence. Authenticity is something that Dasein seeks and can only be achieved when one embraces and perceives death. Demise is a part of life in the sense that it is the termination point of one’s living. Embracing it completes life and helps one gain authenticity in living.
Heidegger mentions that the call of conscience is responsible for giving Dasein a sense of recognition. In addition, Dasein creates a path of realizing itself and recognizing its characteristics, feelings and all that constitutes a whole being. It is this conscience that pushes one to know how to react and act accordingly. The necessity of having a conscience is to know how to relate with others, respond to issues and deal with everything in life. Other feelings conducted by conscience include guilt and neglect among others, which all add up to the persona of an individual.
The silent call of conscience separates Dasein from the everyday happening and social disturbances. It is an inward voice that helps Dasein make own decisions based on personal thinking sans any interference originating from the surroundings. It is propelled by the anxiety of the conscience where Dasein stays in silence pondering on an issue. In turn, Dasein comes up with a brilliant solution that serves to help resolve any pending problems. Dasein also recollects and examines various feelings such as guilt, neglect and hate among others. Subsequently, one knows the way forward and is clear about the action to take.
Resoluteness is part of the whole being and self-ownership since it is a trait that can be developed for Dasein to have a purpose. In addition, resoluteness is connected to the persona of the Dasein, which can be developed or owned. The anxiety of the conscience is responsible for developing resoluteness, which often leads to freedom upon experiencing it. In turn, one gains full being and it is within the state that the conscience is free to act as a proper guide in one’s life.
