Reflect Choose a clip that you wish to analyse. The clip you choose must be from a film (preferably from a film with which you are familiar) – not a film trailer or a mash-up. Re-watch your chosen movie clip while closely observing the mise en scène. What analysis can you make about the placement and movement of characters and props in the scene as they relate to camera shots, color, lighting, and other elements of cinematography? Write In your discussion, analyze at least three elements of cinematography and editing (e.g., lighting, color, shots, focus, transitions, and types of cuts) by evaluating the dramatic impact of the scene. Interpret the scene based on your analysis. In your view, what mood, symbolism, or meaning results from the scene’s creative editing and cinematography? Include the name or partial name of the film clip you analysed in the “Subject” line of your discussion
In Empire season two the shots and the movement of the actors are different depending with what was being said. Camera shots this is the space seen in the shots they could be long shot amongst others. In season two episode 12 When Hakim is addressing the press the shots are different before he starts addressing the press the shot is a long shot but when he begin addressing them and answering questions the shot changes to a closer up(Musburger,2010). Camera movement this include different terms pan, tilt, dolly, pedestal the action make the quality of the camera When the media start asking question the camera movement change from one journalist to another smoothly without the image being blurred or shaky. Luscious met with Hakim at a dark area this was because something bad to happen and mostly bad things occur when it’s dark. When Hakim has launched his new logo as the new boss on day one. The lights first go dim just to give the workers in there some suspense then the logo is presented with the lights being turned on. It moves the moods of the audience since they are curious about what they are about to see. When Jamal is performing in the club the song “people tell me am like my daddy” in the crowd it’s a bit dark whereas the stage is all light so that the artist can stand out in the room (Malkiewicz,2014). Symbolism. The use of the action or an object to pass the message or a point. In Empire types of shots. Hakim has an art of a lion on his desk in the office. This symbolizes the power and bravery as he takes over the new position. The editing was creative they were able to change the mood with the use of light, the different types of shots showed the seriousness of that action.
