Person 1 is female, 83 years old and in relatively good health. She suffers from a mild case of arthritis that sometimes makes it hard for her to do chores around the house, but her children help out.
Person 2 is male, 74 years old. He has some health issues such as hypertension, some memory loss, especially in the short term and deteriorating vision.
Person 1- Her main focus in life right now is her family, especially her five grandchildren, whom she visits almost every day. Person 2 says his main focus in life is appreciating every good day that he has given his health challenges. He realizes every day is a gift and focuses on doing the best he can for others.
Person 1’s roles have reduced since she was younger, as she is more fragile now. As a nurse, she had many responsibilities at work and home, but now she stays home. Person 2’s roles have also changed as he can no longer work actively but acts as a consultant for his charitable organization.
Both person 1 and 2 say the things that matter most to them is their family and health. Person 1 helps in caring for her grandchildren while Person 2 made amends with his son, whom he fell out with twenty years ago.
Person 1 says she derives the meaning of her life in her ability to be with her children and their children. When she was younger, she worked as a nurse, and that kept her away from them, but in her old age, she cherishes the slow and relaxed pace of life. Person 2 says that he finds meaning in life by reflecting on all the things he was able to do in his younger years as the founder of a charitable organization.
