Differences between men and women

The difference between men and women is not only seen in their physical appearance but also in their way of thinking, personality traits and behavior. For a long time now, these differences were socially defined through the opinions of sexism whereby men were assumed to be the stronger sex while women were the weaker sex. But these opinions are gradually changing because feministic ideologies whereby the perception people have in different societies is that men and women are equal in various ways and none should be discriminated. This paper discusses the differences that exist between men and women that are merely as a result of nature without focusing on the physical appearance.

Women have a general way in which they tend to relate with other people in the society that is very different from how men relate with other. For instance women tend to talk a lot and more effectively compared to men. Their focus in communication is geared more towards creating solutions and having a way out of issues that arise within a group. Through the use of non-verbal cues such as empathy and emotions, this aspect about women is easily achieved. Men on the other hand are less talkative with their main focus being to accomplish tasks that they are responsible for. Unless emotions be clearly verbalized or exposed in a clear way, men will have a hard time to understand about emotion. Unlike men, women can intuit emotions and understand emotional cues quite easily.

Another obvious difference between men and women lies on the way they react towards stressful situations. Women react to stressful situations by being more befriending others close to them, being social, sharing their problems and showing more love and care for their families. This is quite uncharacteristic in men, because they react in a more isolated manner. They will tend to fight out the situation as a man or flee from the situation. Men struggle on their own even in times of stress and most time fail to share what they are going through with other people even their spouse.

Due to the difference in terms of their brain functioning, women have distinct ability from the men. For example, women have a tendency to multi-task because of the nature of their brain. They have more cells that connect their left side to the right side of their brain and this gives them advantage over the men in terms of ability to multitask. Men on the other hand can only accomplish one thing at time because they rely more on one side of their brain to solve problems. This is mainly observed at home with parents; the mothers and girls have a tendency to focus on various chores at a time while the fathers and their boys usually stick to one task at time.

Both men and women have the ability to solve problems perfectly well but the difference is seen in their approach towards solving a particular problem. Men use an approach that would expose their competence and prove a point that they are better, stronger, and more committed. They try to show their dominance in any problem solving situation. Women on the other hand would solve problems by trying to deepen their relationships with others. They tend to be more deliberate as they would engage the opinion of others in the problem solving situation.

Lastly men and women have distinct sensitivity. For instance men would react to an alarm of danger with readiness to fight. Their response is more aggressive compared to women. Men have an increased emotional insensitivity and tend to block their empathetic nature.
