Wakanda

The town is said to be haunted since people claim that the first witches were buried here after they drowned as they were escaping for better pastures. This is just one of the stories that the elderly has always told the children to scare them from walking at nights, luckily, it has been working. Wakanda is a city that most people believe to have existed for more than 1000 years, one does not have to dispute this because of the steel that has constructed the gates and the watchtower that is believed to have been smuggled long before the slave trade. The high steel wall conceals a very fragmented society with the rich who are the rulers living in the high buildings with the big windows facing the lake, people living here originated from everywhere hence the beautiful culture and the church is only known to be attended as a formality.

The people living in the city originated from all over the world, this explains the unique accent that is somehow the British accent but hardly understandable by people not from surrounding areas. The town has many festivals which are the only time the segregation between the rich and the poor of the town seems to diminish as they enjoy the parties, the only distinction during this time is from the expensive oil applied by the rich and the expensive jewelry they smuggle through Lake Tahio. As one is walking down the street the distinction between the rich and the poor is evident from the lighting of the high buildings and the lavender oil as servants are drawing their master’s baths with the other down laid houses with candles, lamps and the stench of cheap wine in the air. Unfortunately, the only other time the city seems to be one is when the daughters and sons of the cities leaders and families are getting married to the noble children of other lords from far away areas as their guards and servants enjoy the Wakanda market streets. The children from the low-class family are married by their fellow low-class people with the lucky ones being married by the servants of the rich families, the only education available is for high-class households is knitting and some reading for the daughters while the sons read and join their father in the fields for weapons and horse racing. Unfortunately, the children from the lower classes join the parents in their jobs to ensure they have enough food for their survival since they get to have no particular routine they engage in music and if lucky are invited to their masters home to entertain them. While the high-class households wear expensive dresses and fabric that has been smuggled or bought by their husbands while on business the lower classes just wear cheap fabric from the market and only afford the expensive clothes when getting married. Lastly, while the people from the high households enjoy delicious buffet meals with seasoned spices, bread and beans are the staple meal for the poor people, the distinction between the two classes of people in Wakanda is distinct in every possible way.

Additionally, as Karl Marx states that religion is the opium of the society the Wakanda people in their way are very staunch churchgoers, they are two churches in the area hence people lack many options. The bell in the Sundays awake the whole city with it being the only day the poor get to at least take a good bath and wear their best clothes, it is common to see carriage horses of high-class families carrying the whole family to church. The little ones from low-class families can only stare at the sophisticated clothes and well-braided hair of the children from the rich, the seats at the front rows are set aside for the rich while the poor sit at the back. For poor people who have not been employed in rich households they prefer to go to the furthest church that is mostly occupied by the middle and lower-class people, they are some distinction but not as evident. However, they are a group of people who do not attend either of the churches, they are the Salem witches who do not believe in churches but meet up every Friday in the fields for their coven meeting.

Democracy is a term that has never been heard in the town, the political system in the city has been passed down through families since time immemorial, the rest only hear of a new leader in the event one of the leaders passes on. However, in the villagers, they are some chosen people who collect taxes from the lower-income houses for the ongoing operations of their leaders and security at the city walls, they only fulfill their personal needs with no regard for the rest of the people. Only the sons take over the reign from their fathers, the daughters are usually married off to other noble master’s children to strengthen ties among noble families. The noble masters are the owners of the brothels in the markets, which are the only place one can find a better wine and smuggled prostitutes, its one way of ensuring that the poor remain as there are while the rich keep on accumulating wealth. Moreover, during the passing over of reigns to another leader, the city enjoys a very productive week from the business in both the market and the brothels by people coming to pay their respect to the new leader from the surrounding cities. Fortunately, this also serves as a time for sophisticated women from the lower class to match up with suitors who serve as servants in other noble families from other cities. Every once a month the lower classes get to take their gifts to the leaders while presenting their grievances, this is the only time they feel as if they are also playing a part in their society as they enjoy the warm air from their leader’s households. Finally, to ensure that the leaders have the best of everything their goods are usually smuggled through the lake which is one of the main factors that have insured these families power since they use it to conduct business.

While education is being advocated maybe this will be the only way that a city like Wakanda may one day cease to exist while people come into the existence of a better life and their rights. Unfortunately, since we are not there yet the city of Wakanda continues to bloom as most people suffocate into poverty waiting for their savior in a Trojan horse.
