Discussion about the Revision Process
The most important point from Obert Skye’s TEDx Talk ‘The Magic of Revision’ is that revision helps make a person’s writing better, complete, and great. Skye tells authors to keep revising their work as only good things can come from it. He says that writing is a process that involves many critical stages, and the most important step is revising. Revising is the fifth stage of the writing process (Skye, 2016). Revision is magic; it brings clarity. He tells his audience that while many people find revision dreadful, frightening, and taxing, they should always undertake it because it helps tell a better story and share the right idea. Revision is what makes our ideas what sharing.
The concept of revision being critical in making writing better and complete relates to this week’s work because many people struggle to make their writing better. Many students and not just authors do not see the need to revise their work, yet they expect their writing to be excellent and clear of mistakes. I have also struggled to revise work, but over time I have come to realize that revising is the only way to improve writing. Revision is important as it helps me notice and rectify mistakes in my first draft. Writing is a process, and one rarely attains perfection in the first draft. Therefore, it is important to revise the first mistake to rectify any grammar or any other mistakes that one makes in their first draft. Tools that I will employ to submit a comprehensive project this week is grammarly. Grammarly is quite helpful in noticing grammatical mistakes in writing. I intend to use it to make my writing better. Also, having a second eye perspective has proved useful in identifying mistakes in writing. The tip I would share with peers is that they should be open-minded about the benefits that revision has on writing. They should not view revision as a tedious project but rather as a way to better their writing skills. To make revision easier, students should start revision early and have a tidy study space.
