Personal Statement

As our natural resource base increasingly continues to shrink, it has become vitally important to review viable ways through which we can address this in an effective and sustainable manner. Emergent trends ascertain that the third world is bound to suffer the most in future because of its limited technological ability. My decision to pursue a Masters Degree in Sustainable Management of Natural Resources was largely informed by the preceding trends. Since the countries of the third world depend solely on the respective natural resources for their livelihood and sustenance, it is imperatively important to safeguard the respective resources in a bid to secure their future and general wellbeing.

My dream had always been to pursue higher education in the most renowned institution of higher learning. I believe that the quality of education is instrumental in enabling one to be more competitive. This can only be guaranteed in institutions that have a proven record of providing the same. It is for this reason that I am applying for a chance at Leicester University. This institution has been accredited for providing quality and leadership oriented education. Moreover, the institution has excelled in co curricula activities and accommodates students from diverse social, economic, racial and cultural backgrounds. The close relationship between the students and the teaching staff in undertaking vital research contributes significantly to broadening the knowledge base of the students.

I feel that my educational goals can be effectively met at this institution because of the fact that it offers innovative programs that are comprehensive and creative in nature. In particular, they are tailored and designed to meet the diverse and dynamic needs of the commercialized world. I strongly feel that this is a fundamental attribute of quality education. Thus attending this institution would enable me to attain the critical creative skills that are needed for adaptation in the changing world. Further, the institution has excellent facilities as well as resources. These are vital in molding informed individuals that would fit in the society on completion of higher education.

I look forward to gaining useful skills, knowledge and insights regarding natural resource conservation and management. After completing this course, I would like to be an environmental officer. Knowledge about natural resource use and conservation would undoubtedly be useful in enabling me to make vital decisions regarding environmental conservation.

With respect to my contributions to the program, my internship at the Kenya Forest Service equipped me with vital skills regarding forest conservation. I can benefit the program by participating in knowledge generation regarding the current challenges natural resource conservation and sustainable ways to address these. This would be attained by undertaking a comprehensive research and participating actively in classroom discussions. Further, I studies environmental planning and management as well as natural resource conservation at the undergraduate level. This knowledge would act as a basement upon which I would further my studies. Undoubtedly, previous understanding of the core concepts in this regard would ease understanding.
