Response to Rebecca Rafael’s Post

After reviewing your post, I feel there would be a readiness of staff and organizations to initiate a change plan. When the surgeon moved his head to better look at the patient, he accidentally dropped his glasses into the patient, which was a mistake since doing so may cause the patient to get a severe infection, which could even lead to the patient’s death. In this case, a barrier to the change plan was the surgeon’s ignorance of the importance of preventing infections for the patients. In this situation, it seems that the surgeon’s glasses did not fit him perfectly, which is why they dropped during the surgery. Another barrier to the change plan that I can foresee happening, in this case, is that the surgeon lacked the necessary equipment. If his glasses fit perfectly, then this situation could not occur. Therefore, I would recommend that this health facility to ensure that all the surgeons is equipped with the necessary personal equipment to avoid reoccurrence of such cases. Despite the mistake made in this scene, I was pleased by the head surgeon who proceeded to remove the foreign object from the patient. This shows that this health care facility practiced collaboration in providing for the needs of the patients.
